Taneyev's opus 16 string quintet is one of his finest chamber works. Taneyev was a pupil of Rubenstein (piano) and Tchaikovsky (composition) at the Moscow Conservatoire in Russia. His extraordinarily underappreciated skills in counterpoint and harmony honed through close study of Bach and Beethoven, combined with a bold and lyrical style of his own makes Taneyev's music both complex and emotionally plain at once.
The C major quintet will be performed at 10pm in the atmospheric and intimate space at Westgate Chapel.
