As has become (almost) a tradition at LCMF, our Sunday afternoon concert once again presents some rather unusual pieces! Alongside Haydn today, we will have a Sonata for viola and piano, by composer Melanie Daiken. Melanie was a student of Olivier Messiaen in Paris, and wrote this Sonata in 1981 for violist Csaba Erdely. This afternoon performed by James Boyd, and young pianist Mishka Momen. After this we have something really special: a rare performance of Schoenberg's first string quartet, given by some brilliant young students from MusicWorks chamber courses, who have been working alongside Catherine Manson.
